How can I purchase tickets for a performance?

Tickets can be purchased online via our webshop, by phone (+43 2985 33000), by email (office@operburggars.at) or directly at the Opera BURG GARS office.


Which discounts are available?

Please note that discounts cannot be combined. Discounts are only available for advance sales. Regular prices apply at the box office on the evening of the performance.


How can I pay for my tickets?

  • Opera BURG GARS office: Cash, VISA or Mastercard
  • Bank transfer: You will first receive a reservation confirmation with all necessary payment details. Once the payment is received we will send your invoice and tickets via email (print@home) or by post.
  • Evening box office: Cash, VISA or Mastercard



How do I receive my tickets?

  • Print@home: Tickets are sent via email after payment. You can print them out at home or show them on your smartphone. Ensure that the QR code is clearly visible for scanning at the entrance.
  • Postal delivery: Tickets can be sent by post. Please note that a €4 shipping fee will be charged.
  • Pick-up at the Opera BURG GARS office: Tickets can be picked up directly at the Opera BURG GARS office.
  • Evening box office: For last-minute bookings, tickets can be picked up at the evening box office.



What is a print@home ticket?

A print@home ticket is an electronic ticket that is sent via email after receiving payment. You can either print it out at home or show it on your smartphone at the entrance. The QR code must be clearly visible for scanning.

Are the stage and seating area covered?

No, both the stage and the seating area are outdoors.


What happens in case of bad weather?

Performances take place in all weather conditions. We recommend guests bring warm clothing and rain protection if needed. Please avoid umbrellas on the stands, as they can block the view of the other guests.

If the 8:00 PM start cannot take place due to weather, the Opera BURG GARS will wait up to one hour. Any cancellations are made on site by the opera management only.


When does the castle grounds open on performance days ?

The castle grounds open at 6:00 PM.


When does admission to the seating area begin?

Admission to the seating area begins 30 minutes before the performance.


How long does a performance last? Is there an intermission?

A performance lasts until around 11:00 PM with an 30-minute intermission included.


Is there a shuttle service? Where can I park my car?

Plenty of parking spaces are available at Gars/Thunau train station.

On all event days, enjoy our free shuttle transport to the site, available until shortly before the performance. The shuttle buses depart from Gars/Thunau train station (Departure 1) and from the foot of the castle hill at the ‘Bio-Schober’ (Departure 2). Passengers get off the bus at Gasthaus Klackl (Castle exit) and are required to walk the remaining short distance by foot.
No prior registration is needed. The shuttle runs as needed along the route to Schloßberg.

Attention: If you require a shuttle back after the performance, arrangements and pricing must be made directly with the shuttle driver. For the return journey, get on the shuttle at the same stop where you got off.


Is there a bus transfer from Vienna to Gars?

On three selected dates, the Opera BURG GARS offers a bus transfer. More information can be found here.


I purchased a bus ticket. Where does the bus depart?

The bus transfer from the Opera BURG GARS departs from the overnight bus stop at Schwedenplatz. Please be there by 5:00 PM latest.


Are wheelchair-accessible seats available?

Accessible seating for guests with mobility needs and their companions can only be booked through the Opera BURG GARS office at +43 2985/33000 or office@operburggars.at. For details on availability and access to the castle grounds, please contact the office. Accessible restrooms are located close to wheelchair spaces.


Are there accessible parking spaces?

If you require parking near the castle due to mobility issues, please contact the office at +43 2985/33000 or office@operburggars.at.


Can I take photos during the performance?

For legal reasons, photo and video recordings are not allowed during the performance. Thank you for your understanding.


Are there clothing recommendations?

Enjoy a relaxed opera evening and dress comfortably. Many guests use the occasion to dress elegantly but this is not required. Please take note that it can get cold the evening and dress accordingly.


What is not allowed on the stands?

Pets, glass bottles or other glassware are permitted on the stands. Please also refrain from using your mobile phones, photography or umbrellas. Smoking as well as standing in the emergency exists is also not allowed.


Can I bring my dog?

Except from certified companion dogs, no pets are allowed.

Can I return my purchased tickets?

No, tickets cannot be refunded or exchanged.


Is the Opera BURG GARS office open on Saturdays?

Yes, the office is open on opera performance days, including Saturdays.


I lost something. Who can I contact?

Lost items are kept at the evening box office. Please contact us at +43 2985 33000 if you are missing something. Note that we do not assume liability for lost items.


What should I do in case of an emergency?

In an emergency, please contact the doctor, a member of the fire or technical staff or our security personnel. The evening box office remains staffed throughout the performance.
