Christian Drescher began his musical career as a Vienna Boys’ Choir member from 1977 to 1983, where he performed as a soloist in the 1st soprano. During this time, he took part in several tours. From September to December 1978, he traveled through Germany, the Netherlands, the USA, and Canada. From January to April 1980, another tour brought him to Germany and New York, followed by a tour in September–October 1980 through Germany. From January to March 1982, he toured the USA and Canada again.
During these years, he participated in numerous masses, including Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Theresien Mass, and appeared at the Vienna State and Volksoper, notably in Leonard Bernstein’s Mass (boy soloist, February 1981), Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (1st Boy), Bizet’s Carmen, Kienzl’s Der Evangelimann, and Puccini’s La Bohème, as well as in many other concerts in Austria and abroad.
From 1986 to 1993, Christian Drescher studied solo singing as a baritone at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and graduated with unanimous distinction in song, oratorio, and opera, earning the degree Magister Artium. In 1993, he was awarded the Honorary Prize of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Science and Art.
In 2000, he made his debut at the Vienna Volksoper. From 2002 to 2022, he was a member of the ensemble, performing a total of 72 roles in 1069 performances, including 648 opera performances. Guest performances took him to Turin in 2005 and Tokyo in 2016. Since the 2024/25 season, he has been a member of the ensemble at Musiktheater Linz.
