Russian mezzo-soprano Daria Sushkova was born in 1996 in Tambov. From 2013 to 2017, she studied voice and opera at the Ippolitov-Ivanov Music University in Moscow and subsequently from 2017 to 2021 at the GITIS Theatre Institute (Faculty of Musical Theatre). From 2021 to 2022, she participated in the Young Artist Programme of the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre in Moscow.

Since the 2022/2023 season, she has been a member of the Opera Studio of the Vienna State Opera and snce the 2024 season, she is a member of the soloist ensemble of the Vienna State Opera. She has been a scholarship holder of the Vladimir Spivakov Charity Foundation and is a prize winner of several national and international competitions. Her performances have taken her, among other places, to France and Belgium. She was nominated for the opera prize Onegin.

She has collaborated with conductors including Franz Welser-Möst, Simone Young, Philippe Jordan, Nicola Luisotti, Tugan Sokhiev, Giampaolo Bisanti, Bertrand de Billy, Stefan Gottfried, Tomáš Hanus, Lothar Koenigs, Carlo Rizzi, Alexander Soddy, Pablo Heras-Casado and Pier Giorgio Morandi.

Her operatic roles include Suzuki, Zelatrice, Wowkle and Ciesca in Puccini’s operas, Rosina in Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, Carmen and Mercédès in Bizet’s Carmen, Laura and Olga in Tchaikovsky’s works, Flora, Federica, Fenena, Emilia, Maddalena and Giovanna in Verdi’s operas, Flosshilde and Rossweisse in Wagner’s works, the Shepherdess in Janáček’s opera, Rosette in Massenet’s Manon, Marta in Gounod’s opera, Melanto in Monteverdi’s opera, Bersi in Giordano’s opera, Prince Orlofsky in Johann Strauss II’s Die Fledermaus, the Third Maid and the Dryad in Richard Strauss’s operas, the Third Wood Sprite in Dvořák’s works, Sister Mathilde and Sister Jeanne in Poulenc’s operas, the Third Lady in Mozart’s operas, as well as Lyubasha and Dunyasha in Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride and the Spring Fairy Vesna in The Snow Maiden (Snegurochka).

In the concert and song repertoire, she regularly performs works by Mahler, Elgar, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Schubert, Strauss, Ravel and Duparc.

Daria Sushkova is a native Russian speaker, has a good command of German, is fluent in English and has solid operatic diction in Italian.
