Uncle Bonze

In the 2024/25 season, Evgeny Solodovnikov, ensemble soloist of the Vienna State Opera, sang the following roles: the Fifth Jew in Salome, the Bonze in Madama Butterfly, Daland in The Haunted Ship (children’s production), the Boatswain in Billy Budd, the Second Armoured Man in Die Zauberflöte and Fouquier-Tinville in Andrea Chénier. In the summer of 2025, he performed the role of Doctor Grenvil in Verdi’s La Traviata at the Opera BURG GARS.

In the course of the recent seasons, he also sang and covered the roles of the One-Armed Man in Die Frau ohne Schatten, Geronte de Ravoir in Manon Lescaut, Melchtal in Guillaume Tell, Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro, Angelotti in Tosca, the Fifth Jew in Salome, the High Priest of Bel in Nabucco, and Pietro in Simon Boccanegra, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, the Provost Marshal in Cardillac, Fouquier-Tinville in Andrea Chénier, Hans Foltz in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, a Priest in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, the Bonze in Madama Butterfly, Il Principe di Bouillon in Adriana Lecouvreur, Surin in The Queen of Spades, Nikitich in Boris Godunov, Talpa in Il tabarro, Astradamors in Le grand macabre, Colline in La bohème, Timur in Turandot, Larkens & Billy Jackrabbit in La fanciulla del West, Il Commendatore in Don Giovanni, Zuniga in Carmen, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Titurel in Parsifal, Gonzalo in The Tempest, Pistola in Falstaff, Caronte in L’Orfeo, the First Apprentice in Wozzeck, Nettuno/Antinoo/Il Tempo in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, Old Convict in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, Fafner in Das Rheingold, Un Frate in Don Carlo, Banquo in Macbeth, as well as numerous other roles.

Evgeny’s further engagements included his debut at the Semperoper Dresden as Hans Foltz in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg as well as Kitchiga in Die Zauberflöte at the Opéra de Lyon. As a member of the young artists’ ensemble of the Flemish Opera in 2016/17, he sang the Speaker and the First Priest in Die Zauberflöte, Pietro in Simon Boccanegra, Lesbo in Agrippina and Duda in Sadko. At the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, he performed the roles of Skula in Prince Igor, Zaretsky in Eugene Onegin, Lieutenant Ratcliffe in Billy Budd, Malyuta Skuratov in The Tsar’s Bride, a Policeman in Boris Godunov (based on the first edition of Mussorgsky’s Boris Godunov), Innkeeper/Sergeant in Manon Lescaut, and sang Samuel in Un ballo in maschera at the Savonlinna Opera Festival.
