Matthias von Stegmann
Director
Matthias von Stegmann worked as stage manager and assistant director at the Bayreuth Festival, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and the New National Theatre Tokyo. His own directing work has taken him, among other places, to Tokyo and Bayreuth, the Hungarian State Opera in Budapest, Oper Kiel, the Ural Opera in Yekaterinburg, Theater für Niedersachsen in Hildesheim, the Klosterneuburg Opera Festival, Zurich Opera House and the Vienna State Opera. As a librettist, he conceived and wrote Wagner’s Ring of the Nibelung for children, a shortened version of the tetralogy for young audiences. As a performer, he was most recently seen as Bassa Selim in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Metropolitan Opera in New York.
In addition, Matthias von Stegmann works as a dialogue writer and dialogue director for film and television dubbing in the German-speaking world. Alongside feature films such as The Sixth Sense and Rental Family, he has been solely responsible for the German version of The Simpsons for over 20 years.
