Oreste Cosimo

Tenor

Pinkerton

(July 16)

Oreste Cosimo was selected by Riccardo Muti in 2016 for his Italian Opera Academy in Ravenna. Since then, his career has taken him to some of the world’s most important opera houses, including Deutsche Oper Berlin, Los Angeles Opera and Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.

Among the leading roles in which he has already made his debut are Rodolfo in La Bohème (Los Angeles, Festival Puccini, Opéra de Nice, Filarmonico di Verona, Prague, Trieste, Bern), Don José in Carmen (Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Coruña), the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto (Modena, Ferrara, Tel Aviv), Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni (Filarmonico di Verona), Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly and Nadir in Les Pêcheurs de perles, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor (Aalto-Theater Essen, Nice, Düsseldorf, Tel Aviv), Alfredo in La Traviata (Tel Aviv, Prague, Berlin), and Hoffmann in Les contes d’Hoffmann (Berlin, Tel Aviv).

From childhood, Oreste Cosimo showed a special musical talent. He first studied piano before turning to singing, and graduated with honours from the “Arrigo Boito” Conservatory in Parma. At the age of 21, he made his debut as Ismaele in Nabucco at Teatro Verdi in Busseto. In 2018, he moved to Vienna to continue his training under the guidance of Ramon Vargas.

In 2016/2017, he was a member of the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, where he had the opportunity to study with artists such as Renato Bruson, Gregory Kunde, Luciana D’Intino and Vincenzo Scalera. He also appeared in the productions La Traviata, Nabucco and Hänsel und Gretel on the main stage of La Scala in Milan, working with some of the world’s most important conductors, including Antonio Pappano and Daniel Barenboim. During his time at La Scala, he also had the opportunity to sing the role of Alfredo alongside Anna Netrebko at an orchestral rehearsal of La Traviata conducted by Nello Santi.

He distinguished himself in several international singing competitions: in 2019 he received the Grand Prix at the “Bibigul Tulegenova” Competition in Kazakhstan and was among the prizewinners of the “Ferruccio Tagliavini” International Singing Competition in Graz (Austria). In 2013, he was a finalist at the “Voci Verdiane” Competition in Busseto. In 2018, he won the ASLICO Competition, which gave him the opportunity to make his debut as Fenton in Falstaff at the theatres of Opera Lombardia.

His symphonic repertoire includes Puccini’s Messa di gloria, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, Mozart’s Requiem, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater and Rossini’s Stabat Mater.

Recent highlights include: Il Tabarro and Gianni Schicchi in Vilnius; La Traviata in Melbourne with Opera Australia; Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with the Orchestra
